Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be fully embedded in corporate strategy and operations. This involves ensuring that all of the corporation’s philosophies, goals, strategies and activities take into account the organisation’s impacts on its stakeholders, the environment and society as a whole.

The development of native customary rights land into commercial plantations by SALCRA is a shining example of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in action. Amidst the global demonstrations against corporate greed and the increasing global concern over the environment, it has become more imperative for corporate bodies to practice and implement a structured CSR practices.

Although maximizing profits remain the ultimate goal of every business concern, the focus is now shifting from Shareholders’ values to Stakeholders’ values. Although corporate philanthropy remains noble, the ultimate goal of CSR practises is to create “shared values”.

What is meant by “shared values”? It means the creation of wealth through innovation; the maximisation of shareholders’ profit through best practises whilst at the same time, engaging the stakeholders all the way.

By developing the vast tracts of idle native customary rights land, we are able to provide employment to the rural communities. Moreover, the oil palm plantations that we manage generate profits and we are able to pay dividends to our landowners. SALCRA is thus playing its role to achieve the nation’s aspirations to eradicate poverty and improve the socio-economic well-being of the rural populations.

"As a leading government agency in land development, SALCRA’s main objective is to raise the long term productivity and optimum utilization of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land by developing and managing the development of such land which are hitherto underutilized, unutilized or undeveloped into socially and economically viable plantations.

SALCRA is also involved in the downstream activities such as the milling of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) into Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and Palm Kernel (PK).

By integrating social and environmental demands with business performance, SALCRA creates an expanding circle and aims to meet the economic, social and environmental expectations that benefit its stakeholders."
