7 January 2025, Kuching: Yang Berhormat  Dato’ Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, the Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development of Sarawak, who is also Chairman of SALCRA, attended a press conference at the Raia Conference Centre and Hotel in Kuching, where he witnessed the official handover of the Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) file. The file was handed over by Bapak Edy Simson Pardamean Sinurat, the representative of Perusahaan Terhad (PT) Wira Karitas, to the General Manager of SALCRA, Tuan Joseph Blandoi. This handover took place after YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom’s second visit to Indonesia with SALCRA delegation.

The visit emphasises the ongoing challenge that SALCRA faces in addressing the labor shortage at its oil palm plantations, which has become a significant issue for the industry. The shortage of workers in the plantations has impacted the efficiency and growth of the sector, particularly as demand for palm oil production increases. In response to this critical labor gap, the recruitment of Indonesian migrant workers has become an essential solution for ensuring that SALCRA's plantations remain productive and competitive.

During the press conference, YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom expressed his appreciation for the arrival of 65 Indonesian migrant workers, who are expected to support the operations at SALCRA's oil palm estates. He acknowledged that this collaboration with Indonesian workers is crucial in maintaining the sustainability and progress of the oil palm sector in Sarawak, especially as the local labor force struggles to meet the increasing demands of plantation work.

Also attending the press conference were key figures, including the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development of Sarawak (M-FICORD), Encik Sayed Ismail Nasiruddin Dato’ Sri Wan Hashim; the General Manager of SALCRA, Tuan Joseph Blandoi; the Director of the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak, Yang Berbahagia Datu Dr. Adrian Susin Ambud; the General Manager of the Sarawak Land Development Board (SLDB), Professor Dr. Harry Entebang; the General Manager of the Sarawak Rubber Industry Board (SARIB), Tuan Make Jiwan; the General Manager of the Sago and Nipah Development Board (SNDB), Tuan Haji Zaidell bin Haji Hussaini; and the Deputy General Manager of SALCRA, Tuan Sikin Sentok.
